PART V—LESSONS AND PERFORMANCE TECHNIQUES: Chapter 1 begins with selecting a drum, learning, practice and warm-up methods. The basic technique of holding the drum, your posture and hand positions conclude this part. In Chapter 2, basic drumnote and “teka” (rhythm and time form) methods are introduced with lessons establishing fundamental playing techniques and rhythmic skills. The rhythms Ayub, Baladi, and Chifte-telli are introduced. Chapter 3 concentrates on phrasing and structures. More rhythms are introduced. Finally, variation and elaboration are explored in Chapter 4.
